Eco-friendly upgrades coming to move Urmston

From August, you’ll notice some changes to our car park, with some partial closures and a reduction in parking available but rest assured we are working hard with Deep green to cause minimal disruption to our customers.

We know this means a temporary adjustment for your visits, but it’s all in aid of an innovative project set to make move Urmston even better.

We’re installing immersion cooling for a brand-new on-site data centre – and the energy generated from it will heat our pool.

This isn’t just any upgrade; move Urmston will be the first public leisure centre in the North West, and only the second in the entire UK, to benefit from heat recaptured from Deep Green data centres.

This groundbreaking technology is a huge leap forward in our commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2038, which we’re incredibly proud of.

What does this mean for you?

This new system will significantly reduce our pool’s gas requirements, leading to substantial cost savings and a significant reduction in carbon emissions. In turn, this helps us keep our prices affordable for our members. While these improvements are underway, we’re encouraging all our customers to embrace active travel – that’s walking, running, or cycling to the centre. It’s the perfect opportunity to infuse some extra energy into your day.

Imagine turning your usual driving time into a refreshing warm-up or cool-down. Instead of being stuck in traffic, you’ll be enjoying some invigorating headspace. Plus, that fresh air isn’t simply good for the soul; it’s scientifically proven to reduce stress and boost your mood! And of course, there’s the cash savings from all the fuel you’ll save.

This is the perfect opportunity to try out cycling or jogging if you haven’t before, so why not give active travel a go? Here is some helpful information to help you plan your journey.

Nearby Parking

There will still be some parking available on site, but if you arrive and it’s full, there’s a car park located on Pennybridge Lane just 0.2 miles from the centre, and it has around 80 spaces. Just a 5-minute walk from the centre, it’s a great warm-up before the gym.

Just a 15-minute jog away is the Golden Hill car park with 110 spaces.

Trafford design champ lands a ‘clip and climb’ prize for her pals

Young Catriona Ledger has ambitions to climb to the top – and now her design skills have proved it! The eight-year-old has won a Trafford Leisure competition to design a clip and climb station at the newly-refurbished move Urmston.

Now Catriona, who attends St Anne’s CE Primary School in Sale, has won the opportunity to take all of her Year 4 class mates to the new centre when it opens to test and trial the new clip and climb walls.

A total of 114 pupils from ten Trafford schools took part in the competition – and Catriona’s eye-catching Manchester bee design was selected as the best design by Trafford Council Leader, Cllr Andrew Western.

Cllr Western, who picked Catriona’s design from a shortlist of five students from St Ann’s RC Primary (Stretford), St Michael’s C of E (Flixton), Abbotsford Preparatory School (Urmston) and St Anne’s C of E (Sale), said: “Each of the shortlisted entries was fantastic and all deserved to be in the final five of the competition. But Catriona’s bee design really struck a chord with me and I knew when I saw it that she had to be the winner. Congratulations to Catriona and everyone else who took part.”

Jo Cherrett, Chief operating Officer of Trafford Leisure said: “Trafford Leisure are so excited to bring the clip and climb experience to young people in Trafford. Catriona’s bee design will complement the other designs brilliantly and will be a fantastic, colourful showcase on the front of the new part of the building. We will be delighted to welcome Catriona and her classmates to test the wall once the centre is completed in early 2020”.
